You can help raise some funds for community resiliency while learning important tips about how to survive a disaster Monday night.
The Cal Anderson Emergency Hub is teaming up with Gearhouse Coffee at 800 E Thomas to host a Disaster Trivia night on Monday, November 2, from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. Admission is free, but participants can support the hub by purchasing raffle tickets for emergency preparedness supplies or kicking in a small donation to help fund a new website.
The community initiative launched in 2025 to help core Capitol Hill neighborhoods prepare for major catastrophes. Formed by volunteer neighbors with community grants, the hub serves as a grassroots gathering effort where residents can coordinate resources, share vital information, and support each other when municipal services and city communications go dark.
The group debuted with an “Urban Survival Skills Fair” featuring hands-on disaster readiness stations. Attendees learned essentials ranging from water sterilization, food safety, and amateur radio operation to active earthquake responses and Narcan administration.
Monday’s trivia night continues that mission in an informal setting, quizzing locals on Pacific Northwest disaster lore while equipping the neighborhood with tools and training for future crises.
