ICE identifies six immigrants detained in Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials have confirmed the identities of six immigrants arrested in the Bay Area within the past two weeks. The six men are undocumented immigrants from Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador, and five have criminal histories, according to ICE.

Witnesses recorded videos of ICE agents conducting arrest operations in San Jose, San Francisco, and Oakland, immigration advocates and city officials said. Agents were most recently spotted in Hayward, where two people were detained on Monday, and two more on Tuesday, according to Alameda County Immigration Legal Education Partnership.

While the total number of ICE arrests in the Bay Area remains unknown, federal immigration officials confirmed that agents took the following men into custody between October 16 and Tuesday:

  • Antoniell Flores-Blanco, 20, of Mexico, was arrested in San Francisco. "He has an arrest for child endangerment and felony assault. He is in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings," ERO SF wrote.
  • Ernesto Calderon-Ramirez, 30, of Guatemala, was detained in San Francisco and taken into ICE custody. "He has pending charges for inflicting corporal injury on spouse and corporal punishment/injury on a child," ERO SF wrote.
  • Martin Hernandez Altamirano, 40, of Mexico, is a previously deported immigrant who was recently re-arrested in San Jose. "His criminal history includes DUIs, vehicle theft, domestic violence, and several pending charges. He is in ICE custody pending removal from the U.S.," ERO SF wrote.
  • Eduardo Antonio Ruiz-Garcia, of Honduras, was arrested in Emeryville on October 16, ICE officials said. "During the arrest, he attempted to assault officers and refused their lawful commands," an ICE spokesperson wrote. Ruiz-Garcia was transported to Highland Hospital in Oakland to be treated for injuries.
  • Edgar Fernando Guerrero Romo, of Mexico, was detained in Oakland on October 17. According to ICE, his criminal history includes driving under the influence of alcohol,
  • Milton Ramos-Rodriguez, 51, of El Salvador, was arrested on Oct. 19 in San Francisco. Wearing a suit and tie, Ramos-Rodriguez was apparently on his way to work when agents chased and cornered him in the South of Market neighborhood. Ramos-Rodriguez had been previously deported from the U.S. He was convicted of voluntary manslaughter in California and allegedly had affiliations with a SureƱo gang, according to ICE.

An ICE spokesperson did not immediately respond to KRON4's inquiry for more information on this week's four arrests in Hayward.

Immigration advocates and political leaders accused agents of using excessive force and cruel tactics while carrying out enforcement.

Hayward Mayor Mark Salinas said, "I recognize the fear, uncertainty, and distress that incidents like this create, not only for the families directly affected, but for our neighborhoods and our entire Hayward community. It is deeply troubling that families and neighbors must experience this."

ERO San Francisco field office director Julio Hernandez told KRON4 last week, "ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations remains committed to protecting public safety by locating and arresting criminal aliens who pose threats to our communities."
