ODOT's Tripcheck website notes an early morning closure, October 29, 2026.

PORTLAND, OR – Downed power lines again caused problems on Highway 26 Thursday morning, between Sylvan and Cedar Hills. Portland General Electric is now investigating two such incidents this week.

Tuesday morning, crews dealt with a similar problem along the same stretch of the Sunset. PGE’s John Farmer says, “Trees are the biggest culprit to knocking down power poles and power lines.”

About 2,000 customers lost power last night, but Farmer says it could have been worse, “We have an automated restoration software system,” Farmer said. “Within three minutes, the system automatically rerouted power and 1,000 of those customers came (back) up.”

He acknowledges it’s odd to have several outages along the same highway.

“These are all separate incidents, separate causes,” Farmer said. “But they all impact the same highway, the same commute, the same people.”
