KEYSTONE, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Arapahoe Basin Ski Area is officially the first ski area to open in Colorado for this year's season.

The ski area announced its opening on Wednesday, Oct. 28 and says it is celebrating 80 years. According to the skiing site, it will be open seven days a week for as long as it can for the rest of the season.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area says it is starting with opening its Black Mountain Express and High Noon. The first runs were starting at 11 a.m. when the area opened.

Ahead of the opening, the ski area posted several photos to its social media of plows pushing snow off of some of its routes. Several members of the Arapahoe Basin Ski Area snowmaking crew have also been out over the past few days before the season opening, according to their social media.

The Ikon Pass' winter season also kicked off on Wednesday, according to our Denver news partners. 9News reports that both the Ikon Pass and Ikon Base Pass holders will have unlimited access to the A-Basin.

Arapahoe Basin Ski Area says for those who want unlimited skiing and riding, they should look at the A-Basin or Ikon Pass.
